The messenger passed through the growing crowd and gave the Templar's letter to Friar Tuck.

"If there were someone among us who could get into the castle, he could find out how the castle is being defended," said the Knight. "I think, since they ask for a man of God, the monk should be sent in."

Friar Tuck refused loudly (брат Тук отказался громогласно).

"Pax vobiscum," he said weakly.

"Who are you, monk (кто ты, монах)?" asked Front-de-Boeuf.

"Pax vobiscum," said the jester. "I was travelling through the forest (я странствовал по лесу) when I was taken prisoner by outlaws (когда я был взят в плен разбойниками). They sent me here (они отправили меня сюда) to hear the confessions of some prisoners (чтобы выслушать исповеди = исповедать каких-то пленников)."
