"Ha! Proud Templar," said Ivanhoe, "have you forgotten that you have already fallen before this lance twice? Remember your challenge in the hall of Rotherwood! If you do not fight now, I will call you a coward in all of Europe!"

"Do you accept me as a champion?" Ivanhoe asked Rebecca.

"I do (да: «я /принимаю/»)," she exclaimed. "I do, I do accept you as the champion (да, я действительно принимаю тебя как защитника) sent to me by Heaven (посланного мне небесами)! Yet, no-no — your wounds have not healed (и все же, нет, нет — твои раны еще не залечены). Don't fight against this proud man (не сражайся с этим гордецом)! Why should you die as well (почему и ты должен умереть)?"

Seeing that each knight was in his place, the herald announced that the fight could begin.

The trumpet was heard (послышался /звук/ трубы), and the knights galloped towards each other (и рыцари понеслись галопом навстречу друг другу). The tired horse of Ivanhoe went down (усталая лошадь Айвенго пала; to go down — спускаться, становиться ниже; пасть, быть побежденным), as everyone had expected (как все и ожидали), before the lance of the Templar (под копьем = ударом копья рыцаря храма). But to the surprise of the crowd, the Templar (но к удивлению толпы, тамплиер), who had barely been touched by Ivanhoe's lance (который был только едва задет копьем Айвенго; barely — просто, только; едва, лишь; to touch — /при/касаться, трогать; нанести легкий удар), also fell to the ground (тоже упал на землю).

The trumpet was heard, and the knights galloped towards each other. The tired horse of Ivanhoe went down, as everyone had expected, before the lance of the Templar. But to the surprise of the crowd, the Templar, who had barely been touched by Ivanhoe's lance, also fell to the ground.

Ivanhoe, getting up from his wounded horse (Айвенго, вставая со своего раненного коня; to get up — вставать, подниматься), placed his sword on the Templar's throat (приставил свой меч к горлу рыцаря храма; to place — помещать, размещать; класть, ставить). He ordered him to surrender or die (он велел ему сдаться или умереть; to order — упорядочивать, приводить в порядок; приказывать, отдавать распоряжения). Bois-Guilbert did not answer (Буа-Гильбер не ответил).

"Don't kill him, Sir Knight (не убивайте его, сэр рыцарь)," cried the Grand Master. "He has been defeated (он был повержен; to defeat — одержать победу /над кем-либо/, наносить поражение)."

Ivanhoe, getting up from his wounded horse, placed his sword on the Templar's throat. He ordered him to surrender or die. Bois-Guilbert did not answer.

He came down into the lists and ordered Bois-Guilbert's helmet to be removed. The Templar's eyes were closed, and his face was still dark red. As they looked at him, his eyes opened and his face turned the pale colour of death. Unharmed by the lance of his enemy, he had died, a victim of his own passions.

"This is indeed the judgement of God (вот уж поистине суд Божий; judgement — юр. разбирательство дело в суде; наказание, Божья кара)," said the Grand Master, turning his eyes up to Heaven (обращая свои глаза к небу). "I declare this young woman to be innocent (я объявляю, что эта молодая женщина невиновна; to declare — заявлять, объявлять; объявлять /кого-либо кем-либо/)!"

As the Grand Master spoke (пока великий магистр говорил), they heard a low, rumbling sound (они = все услышали негромкий, рокочущий звук; low — низкий, невысокий; тихий, негромкий /о звуке/; to rumble — громыхать, грохотать, греметь) and the ground shook under them (и земля задрожала под ними; to shake — трясти/сь/; встряхивать; сотрясать/ся/) as a large army of men rode into the lists (так как многочисленный отряд /конных/ воинов: «мужчин» въехал на ристалище; large — большой, крупный; многочисленный; army — армия; войска, вооруженные силы).
