The wedding of Ivanhoe and Rowena was held in York a few days later, and it was attended by a large number of Saxons and Normans, including the King himself. Gurth appeared in the church in fine new clothes at the side of Ivanhoe, and Wamba arrived wearing a new hat with real silver bells on it. Everyone was happy that peace had finally returned to England.

On the second morning after this happy day, the Lady Rowena was told that a young woman had come to see her. Rowena was wondering who this could be, when a woman wearing a large veil entered. To Rowena's surprise, the stranger threw herself at her feet and kissed her dress.

"What does this mean (что это значит)?" asked Rowena. "Why are you doing this (почему вы это делаете)?"
