Alice knew it was the Rabbit coming to look for her, and she trembled till she shook the house, quite forgetting that she was now about a thousand times as large as the Rabbit, and had no reason to be afraid of it.

Presently the Rabbit came up to the door, and tried to open it; but, as the door opened inwards, and Alice's elbow was pressed hard against it, that attempt proved a failure. Alice heard it say to itself 'Then I'll go round and get in at the window.'

'Now tell me, Pat, what's that in the window (а теперь скажи мне, Пэт, что это такое в окне)?'

'Sure, it's an arm, yer honour (конечно же, это рука, ваш честь)!' (He pronounced it 'arrum' (он произнес это слово как "эруука").)

'An arm, you goose (рука, ты, простофиля; goose — гусь, гусыня; дурак, простак)! Who ever saw one that size (кто же видел когда-нибудь руку такого размера)? Why, it fills the whole window (эй, да она же заполняет /собой/ все окно)!'

'Sure, it does, yer honour: but it's an arm for all that (конечно, заполняет, ваш честь, но это все равно рука).'

'Well, it's got no business there, at any rate: go and take it away (что ж, ей там не место: «у нее там нет никакого дела», во всяком случае; ступай и убери ее)!'

'Now tell me, Pat, what's that in the window?'

'Sure, it's an arm, yer honour!' (He pronounced it 'arrum.')

'An arm, you goose! Who ever saw one that size? Why, it fills the whole window!'

'Sure, it does, yer honour: but it's an arm for all that.'

'Well, it's got no business there, at any rate: go and take it away!'

There was a long silence after this (наступила продолжительная тишина после этого; long — длинный; долгий, продолжительный), and Alice could only hear whispers now and then (и Алиса могла слышать только перешептывания, время от времени); such as (такие, как), 'Sure, I don't like it, yer honour, at all, at all (конечно же, мне это не нравится, ваш честь, совсем, совсем)!'

'What a number of cucumber-frames there must be (какое же количество теплиц для огурцов там должно быть)!' thought Alice. 'I wonder what they'll do next (интересно, что они будет делать дальше)! 'What a number of cucumber-frames there must be!' thought Alice. 'I wonder what they'll do next! As for pulling me out of the window, I only wish they could! I'm sure I don't want to stay in here any longer!'
