The very process of work gives to the scientist of Inner Vocation the possibility to feel some purely physiological pleasure.
It is pleasant to do selections, to rewrite interesting documents, what is called, "to dig" into the material, is pleasant, to breathe "archival dust", to touch bibliographic works, to type the bibliography, to collect the necessary books, to worry on whether really "everything" is recognized, is read, is picked up. Without such involving in the process of work is it possible to write personally the whole tome in 250 pages, how it was made by Gogol?" [Vengerov S.A. "Gogol-the scientist" (1913)].
By the way. Not always volume of book - confirmation of her quality. But nevertheless. size (approximate) the books by I.A. Bogdanov: "The long road to Troy" (1994) - 206 pages, "Heinrich Schliemann. The risky gamble in Russia" (2008) - 396 pages, "Heinrich Schliemann. The victory of the myth" (2008) - 331 pages.
Probably, it is possible to title Igor Alekseyevich Bogdanov the adherent of spirit of members of the Order of Saint Benedict.
2004. In in St. Petersburg in the Library of Academy of Sciences takes place the exhibition of books by I.A. Bogdanov about Heinrich Schliemann.
4. 'Historian, translator, writer'
At the end of the book "Don't bring with yourself the verses of Homer..." (1998) the small curriculum vitae about the author is provided. Here is the text:
"Igor Alekseyevich Bogdanov is a historian, the translator, the writer. The author of numerous articles on history of St. Petersburg and also of several books. Among the latest works - "Grand hotel "Europe" in St. Petersburg" (Vienna, 1996, in English), "Lahta - Olgino" (SPb., 1997). Author of two books and many articles about Heinrich Schliemann. Member of Society of Heinrich Schliemann (Germany). Member of the Writers' Union of St. Petersburg and of the St. Petersburg Union of journalists".
Is provided not the most distinct photo of I.A. Bogdanov.
So, those biographic details of I.A. Bogdanov's life, which have been noticed by me in his books, are summed.
5. 'The mysterious treasure of Troy'
Let's mentally move toward the end of 2015 - the beginning of 2016.
My reading of the books by I.A. Bogdanov about Heinrich Schliemann was in beginning.
What have I paid attention to?
First, excellent books design. Secondly, high-quality preparation. Thirdly, high level of contents.
His (slightly emotional) statements about private life of Heinrich Schliemann's relatives created presumable projections regarding his (I.A. Bogdanov) of own private life (I had had a speculative assumption, that I.A. Bogdanov has the married daughter).
Some emotional accent at the mention of Vasily Andreevich Bogdanov, S.F. Solovyov's representative, are interesting (S.F. Solovyov was "the judicial opponent" of Heinrich Schliemann); the merchant and the patron S.F. Solovyov has received small, but very interesting, benevolent biographic essay in the book by I.A. Bogdanov.
I will note a certain coincidence of ours (I.A. Bogdanov and mine) thoughts relatively, for example, of assessment of emotionality of letters of Heinrich Schliemann, demanding the relocation - to him, Heinrich, to the father of family, - Ekaterina with children from Russia. Or about excellent Russian language, on which Ekaterina's letters were written.
I can also state my disagreement with some emotional shades of estimates of I.A. Bogdanov of a marriage of Heinrich on Sofia or behavior of the becoming adult Sergey Schliemann (the son of the great archeologist).
Our opinions and on the movie "Mysterious Treasure of Troy" haven't coincided (2007).
Following the acquaintance with lists of books (author I.A. Bogdanov), readings of the books by I.A. Bogdanov, I had a feeling that he is a living, acting person. Attempts to find "contacts" for an opportunity, for example, to send him the letter by e-mail, have done no results.
I have switched to writing of the book "The Textbook on the success of the writer. Heinrich Schliemann, Nikolai Gogol, Maxim Gorky and their lessons". But in subconsciousness remained the desire to send e-mail to I.A. Bogdanov .
6. 'Leningrad Blockade from A to Z'.
June, 2016. At last I have again returned to the same intention. I have started search over again in the Internet, has again addressed to popular encyclopedia. Again without special success.
Internet: multiposition lists of books, books interesting, well issued. But it is necessary to perceive these lists nevertheless with some care.
For example, in response to one of the Internet inquiries the list of books of "Igor Alekseyevich Bogdanov" has appeared. The list begins with the book about a problem of "poverty". Enthusiasm of writer, the vigorous, fond of various themes? a new subject? I decide to watch more attentively. It turns out that the second letter in the reduced representation of a name of the author - not "A". Obviously not Alekseyevich. Other person? But - in the list.
In other list of books of "Igor Alekseyevich Bogdanov" - two rather special works on physics.
Widespread surname. Initials - not the most rare.
'In any case, - I have thought, - I will write to him through any organization with which he deals'.
After enough long search, after detailing of a formula the Internet of inquiries gradually the significant information begins to come to me.
On one of the websites I find a I.A. Bogdanov's legible portrait. Face of the benevolent, good-natured, vigorous intellectual. And the words: "The short biography of BOGDANOV, Igor Alekseyevich - (1949 - on March 23, 2010). Writer, historian, translator. Authors were published in his translation: Roald Dahl, Hector Hugh Munro, George Kennan, Edith Nesbit, James Grover Thurber, (...) , Howard Phillips Lovecraft (...) Number of literature works of the author (22)".
Really he has already gone to a better world?!
Further I meet: "Igor Bogdanov. 16 editions of books of this author are registered".
On other website I find: "on March 21, 2010 at the age of 60 years the famous historian, the specialist in Sankt-Petersburg's history Igor Alekseyevich Bogdanov has suddenly died". It is reported that he is the author of a number of essays and books about Heinrich Schliemann. About the coming issue of the book of I.A. Bogdanov - "The Leningrad blockade from A to Z". The obituary signed by the Writers' Union of St. Petersburg is mentioned.
