Like bumping in mind on September 1, 1939, Arkady Fiedler suddenly stopped up his story.
The night was over.
- You know, Arkady, - pause said Krzysztof, - I Mariner, traveler, athlete, sailor, writer. Many events in my life have been kind of training. By the way. Did you account for the historical practice? New qualities, new people created by such training?
Arkady Fidler looked at the interlocutor in astonishment.
- Krzysztof! We're on the yacht! The waves are overboard! Are you all right?
- Arkady! .. That's just the point, that now it's 1972, and we cut the waves of the Atlantic Ocean on the yacht, going from Europe to America ... Almost like Christopher Columbus ... To you the phrase "historical training" may seem unexpected and superficial. Let it be so. Not in this case. It's different. If the athlete is on the yacht, sailing keel down, and the mast up, if the yacht then turns over, and the yachtsman swims in the overturned yacht - masts down, if then the yacht returns to its former position with the keel down, and the athlete, pulling himself together and concentrating, continues Route, then, surviving in these incidents, the sailor becomes a slightly different person. And if he continues the route after several overturnings, then, consider, he has acquired new qualities. Yes, the yacht - in general - is not designed for such events. But if such events do happen, the sea trekking should be continued.
Arkady Fiedler watched with increasing amazement the Krzysztof Baranowski.
-Are there any such athletes, Krzysztof? I cannot, of course, tell you exactly how best to proceed after the move of the yacht. Maybe an emergency distress signal seems too hasty, maybe not necessary. But in any case, the most energetic measures for salvation are natural. The continuation of the route after the overturn of the yacht, and even more so after a few overturns, seems like some unnatural insistence. Out of courtesy, refrain from the word "stubbornness."
- Thank you, Arkady, for the story and the opinions expressed. As you rightly said, we're on a yacht. Yes, we're in the middle of the ocean, and now it's 1972. So the route goes on. By the way. Look deep, Arkady!
For a while, Arkady Fiedler quietly looked at the Krzysztof Baranowski.
Then Fiedler said, "Krzysztof, you succeed."
And disappeared.
Baranowski continued trip. From the shores of America, the yacht went to Africa. And from South Africa to Australia. In the Indian Ocean transition, in the "Roaring forties", where sailor meets powerful currents, storm winds, power waves, and where these factors are summed over seamount ridges to stop a sailor, the Baranowski's yacht several times has turned over.
The possibility of such incidents sailor known from the books and stories of the predecessors. During the rollovers, the wooden masts collapsed, leading to catastrophes.
The steel masts of "Polonez" , yachts of Baranowski, passed the test. Having guided the yacht possible order in the stormy ocean, Baranowski continued the route.
Another stop took place in Australia. It has become clear that the continuation of swimming will be very risky.
Baranowski covered the fluctuations.
He remembered his homeland, house, family. In his mind there were fellow-countrymen, shipbuilders, shipyard workers.
More or less constant in the memory and consciousness of the yachtsman was the presence of radio enthusiasts, - the inhabitants of many countries-seeking to provide emotional support, to help provide useful information. In almost all ports Baranowski met with positive attention and assistance.
It turned out that all this complex of memories contributed not so much to the cessation of navigation, but to the aspiration to continue the sea voyage.
"Historical practice?"- thought, maybe, Baranowski
He continued to swim around the globe. Curve Cape Horn, went to Falklands. Next - Britain, Poland.
Great meeting. Congratulations, awards.
The literature argued that Baranowski became the thirteenth sailor, who walked alone on the boat around the world.
What criteria were not entered into the calculation method, success was obvious and undeniable.
On one of the expressive photos Baranowski - with the predecessors: the sailors yachtsmen. An involuntary definition is requested: "Legendary". How could the word "legendary" be interpreted? The Book of Baranowski, electronic copy, presents a photograph of yachtsman at the podium in Szczecin with the Secretary of the PUWP (24 June 1973).
Having started writing a book "Around the World on the "Polonaise"" ("Polonezem dooko╕a ╝wiata"), Baranowski worked at a desk.
In the chair, Arkady Fiedler showed up.
- Congratulations, Krzysztof! A magnificent Sea trekking around the World !
- Our meeting in the Atlantic is one of my unusual and pleasant memories, - Baranowski greeted Fiedler.
- Krzysztof! Being guided on heavenly bodies, and having successfully bypassed around Earth, you have once again proved correctness of the heliocentric concept, - Fidler has playfully added.
-Could I do differently, Arkady?
- Krzysztof, thoughts concerning the qualities formed by swimming in the turned-over yacht have seemed to me interesting. Concentration, courage, ability not to be lost in difficult circumstances, ability to resist to difficulties ... It doesn't seem to you that all these qualities - from the sphere of military science, sport and - somewhat - from similar, adjacent fields of activity?
Baranowski with curiosity was focused on Fidler. Having stopped a look on the interlocutor, he waited for continuation.
Pause, A. Fiedler added:
- It seems to me that swimming on a yacht before, during and after a turning over - is a way to broaden consciousness, develop your horizons, make the world view universal.
-You could say, "cosmic",- noticed in passing Baranowski, (somehow) associatively recalling the Copernican Scientific Revolution. The world famous scientist wrote and distributed among friends, in about 1503-1512 years, a handwritten synopsis of his theory (in 1854, Ian Baranowski issued a complete Copernicus meeting in Latin and Polish).
-The expansion of consciousness, the development of the horizon, the universality of the world of worldview, - continued by Fiedler, - contributes to the formation of scientific and literary abilities.
-Well ... We can meditate: who conspired, designed, built railroads, airplanes, rockets? If you wish, we can also remember the helicopters ...
