She began fanning herself, pulling her T-shirt away from her breasts before it plastered back onto her. “All of this talk about flying makes me so . . .” She lifted her arm gracefully, then fanned her shirt again. The knot came loose, and she shimmied the shirt over her head, letting it drape down her back in a flourish as her hair flowed around her in loose curls. When Tessa finished, she stood with her shirt in one hand and only wore her string bikini and see-through mini-skirt.

The billowy skirt’s material caught the light streaming in through the large door, which gave a perfect outline of her hourglass figure.

Both Privates stopped talking.

“Do you mind? It’s just so warm.” She smiled teasingly. “I’m sure you’re both used to it, since you’ve been living in this desert for so long, but I come from Chicago where it’s so cold, and this heat—” She shrugged and raised the hem of her mini-skirt, giving a flash of her bare upper thighs. She toyed with the hem again, lifting and teasing.

Both privates were outright gaping now. I choked on a laugh, but also knew this was my cue to make a beeline for that phone now.

On silent werewolf feet, I blurred to the phone, knowing that all it would take was one glance in my direction from Privates Osmond or Fitchberg to land me in a world of shit.

But Tessa continued her titillating show by bending over to examine parts of the craft or playing with the string on her bikini, nearly “accidentally” untying it at one point and almost revealing her breast.

Needless to say, the young men were entirely transfixed.

The entire time, she kept up a steady stream of conversation, acting so nonchalantly about the whole thing that one would never guess she was knowingly toying with them.

Honestly, my sister would have made an excellent spy. She was that good at manipulating people.

Heart hammering, I thanked the gods that I remembered Kaillen’s phone number just as I dialed it.

It rang, then rang again, and I worried he wouldn’t answer, but then a deep male voice said, “Hello?”

My insides twisted in juvenile excitement at the sound of his voice, just as my wolf let out an excited whine.

Since I didn’t know if the SF recorded all calls, I simply said, “It’s me. Can you come here?” I prayed he would recognize my voice and not ask questions. He’d said with the blood bond that he could track me anywhere in the world, and I guessed this would be the true test.

A heartbeat of silence passed before he said, “On my way.”

I hung up. At least thirty seconds had passed since I’d blurred to the wall. Tessa now had her mini-skirt off, her string bikini the only thing covering her. She was near the plane’s wing, standing on her tiptoes and hopping up and down, pretending to try to see something higher on the plane.

Both privates were staring at her bouncing breasts every time she hopped.

Swallowing a laugh, I blurred back to behind them on silent feet.

Tessa gave me a sly smile when I reappeared right behind the men. I flashed her a thumbs-up, so she yawned, arching her back and drawing even more attention to her mostly naked upper half. “Well, gentlemen, this has truly been a fascinating tour. My sister and I both thank you.”

Private Osmond finally dragged his gaze away from my sister’s bare body. He cleared his throat. “Of course, ma’am. It was”—he cleared his throat again—“our pleasure.”

He did a double take of the area, as if realizing I was no longer at Tessa’s side, but then relaxed when he saw me standing just behind Private Fitchberg.

“Thanks for the tour!” I said a little too cheerily.

“Do you two want to join us later by the pool in my backyard?” Tessa asked, while toying with the strap on her top. She slid it to her shoulder, letting it fall just enough that, for a moment, it looked as if her breast would pop out.

Private Osmond’s eyes glued to the small triangle of fabric that barely concealed what was beneath. The stench of musk rose so strongly from both squad members, that I had a feeling my sister would be starring in their fantasies for the foreseeable future.

“Um, yeah.” Private Fitchberg cleared his throat. “We could do that. Is seventeen hundred okay?”

“Seventeen hundred?” Tess cocked her head.

I almost snorted but managed to swallow down my laughter, because while my sister played the bimbo well, she was anything but stupid. She knew exactly when seventeen hundred was.

“It’s five o’clock tonight.” Private Osmond’s voice dipped. “Seventeen hundred is military time.”

“Oh!” she batted her eyelashes. “That sounds perfect! We’ll see you two then.” She waved playfully, then grabbed my hand.

Her hips swayed the entire time we sauntered out, and I knew, from the aroused scent we left in our wakes, that each private was still watching my sister until we rounded the corner.

Once we were out of eyesight, I couldn’t stop my grin. “You’re a shameless hussy.”

She laughed, then said proudly, “I know.”

We both fell into a fit of laughter, and I was about to ask her if she really intended to have both men over tonight, when a siren blared from the command center and electric sparks from the wards flared near the runway.

A dozen SF members ran from around the hanger, particle guns in hand, just as Private Osmond yelled to my sister and me, “Get back to your bungalow now!”

My heart jumped into my throat when the wards activated again, a skittering of green sparks shooting across the entire dome. My nostrils flared just as a shape took form outside of the wards.

A large male figure stood only a hundred yards away, testing the wards at this very second. And as the SF mobilized, obviously not knowing if he was friend or foe, a fluttery feeling began in my stomach as I took in the lethal grace with which he prowled along its perimeter, testing and provoking the magical barrier.

“Is that who I think it is?” Tessa whispered in amazement as a flurry of squad members flew past us.

My wolf whined in happiness, and my stomach became a twisting motion of nerves. I fought the excited smile that wanted to curve my lips and managed to reply, “It is.”

The Fire Wolf had arrived.

Chapter 13

“Well, if that’s not a completely unnecessary entrance, I don’t know what is.” Commander Klebus fumed as she stormed by me. “And how the hell did he find this place?”

She began barking orders as the siren finally died from its never-ending wail. The mobilizing squads stopped racing toward where the hunter paced outside of the ward, and the heavy machinery that had appeared from an underground garage—that I hadn’t even known existed—retracted back to its subterranean cavern.

“How did he get here so fast?” Tessa asked me under her breath. She hadn’t bothered to put her T-shirt back on, and she kept getting double takes from a large majority of squad members.

“Long story.” Inside me, my wolf yelped and whined. At least she wasn’t pushing against me, so my hands stayed smooth—no wolfy hairs in sight. “Let’s see if they’ll let him in.”

Tessa and I hurried to the edge of the base in time to hear the vamp commander admonish my hunter.

“Mr. King?” Commander Klebus planted her hands on her hips, her short black hair swaying against her shoulders. “Do you realize what kind of commotion you’ve caused?”

“You have my sincerest apologies,” he replied in a mocking purr.

She bristled. “How did you find this place?”

“Not important.” He tapped the ward again, since he still stood on the other side of it. Every time he tested it, his contact caused a flare of green sparks to skitter across the entire dome. “Drop this shield, Commander. I would hate to break it because I’m only here to collect my mate, not to cause problems.”
