The Admiralty's specialist shipbuilding yard at Pembroke Dock produced over 200 warships for the Royal Navy, including 5 royal yachts, between 1814 and 1926. This long century, from the Napoleonic War until post-First World War, covered all the major changes in warship design and construction, from wood to iron and then steel, and from sail to steam. Despite being established on the south shore of Milford Haven, where no warships had ever been built, within twenty years Pembroke men were building major British warships.
