Before I tell you how I left the Kingdom of Lilliput, I would like to tell you about a secret plot that had been made against me.
I had never known much about life at Court. It had played no part in my life up to now. Of course I had heard and read about princes and ministers, but I had never expected to find that I, myself, was part of an intrigue at Court or that this would take place in such a far-off country, with rules that are so different from those in Europe.
I was preparing for my visit to the Emperor of Blefuscu (я готовился отправится с визитом к императору Блефуску) when an important person at Court came, very privately, to my house one night (когда однажды ночью, совершенно тайно, в мой дом прибыл один важный придворный).
I placed his chair on the table, as I usually did (я поставил, как обычно /это/ делал, его кресло на стол), and sat down at the table (и /сам/ сел рядом: «к столу»). As soon as we greeted each other (как только = едва мы обменялись приветствиями: «поприветствовали друг друга»; soon — скоро) I noticed that he looked very worried (я заметил, что он выглядел весьма озабоченным), and I asked him why this was so (и спросил его о причине этого: «почему это было так»). He asked me to listen patiently to something (он попросил меня терпеливо выслушать нечто) that concerned my honour and my life (что касалось моей чести и жизни).
He said that several private Council meetings about me had been held recently (он сказал, что в последнее время относительно меня было проведено несколько секретных/закрытых заседаний /государственного/ совета). His Majesty had come to a decision two days ago (/и/ два дня тому назад его величество вынес /свое/ решение).

He told me that Skyresh Bolgolam — the High Admiral (он = мой гость сообщил мне, что Скайреш Болголам, верховный адмирал) — had been my enemy since I arrived (со дня моего прибытия: «с тех пор, как я прибыл» стал моим врагом). His hatred had increased since my great success against Blefuscu (его ненависть усилилась после моей великой победы над Блефуску; success — успех, достижение; against — против). As Admiral of the Fleet of Lilliput (как адмирал = будучи адмиралом лилипутского флота), he hated the idea (он не был в восторге от того: «ненавидел /саму/ мысль») that one person had been able to solve the problem of the invasion (что один /единственный/ человек оказался способным решить проблему /вражеского/ вторжения). Along with Flimnap, the High Treasurer, and some other Ministers (в сообществе с Флимнапом, верховным = государственным казначеем, и несколькими другими министрами; along — параллельно, рядом, в одном направлении; along /with/ — вместе c…), he had prepared articles of impeachment against me for treason and other crimes (он подготовил акт, обвиняющий меня в государственной измене и других преступлениях: «подготовил против меня статьи/пункты обвинения в…»).
Out of gratitude for certain favours (из благодарности за определенные услуги /оказанные ему мною/; favour — расположение; благосклонность; любезность, услуга, одолжение), this person from the Court gave me information about these meetings (этот придворный = мой гость снабдил меня /подробными/ сведениями об этих заседаниях) and a copy of these articles (и копией этого акта). The articles were as follows (вот что в нем говорилось: «пункты /обвинения/ были /такими/, как изложено ниже»: to follow — следовать, идти следом):

This law is made in the reign of His Imperial Majesty Calin Deffar Plune (сей закон установлен в царствование его императорского величества Келина Дефара Плюне). Quinbus Flestrin did maliciously and treacherously break this law (злонамеренно и вероломно нарушил этот закон; do/did в утвердительных предложениях употребляется для усиления значения действия) by urinating in order to extinguish a fire in Her Majesty's apartment (выпустив мочу, для того чтобы погасить пожар в покоях ее величества).

Article 1:
This law is made in the reign of His Imperial Majesty Calin Deffar Plune. Whoever shall urinate within the grounds of the royal palace shall be punished for treason. Quinbus Flestrin did maliciously and treacherously break this law by urinating in order to extinguish a fire in Her Majesty's apartment.
Article 2:
Quinbus Flestrin, having brought the fleet of Blefuscu into the royal port (приведя в императорский порт флот /империи/ Блефуску), was commanded by His Imperial Majesty (получил повеление от его императорского величества) to seize all the other ships (захватить все остальные корабли), reduce that Empire to a province (обратить эту империю в провинцию; to reduce — ослаблять, понижать, сокращать; превращать /во что-то худшее, более низкое по статусу/) and destroy all Big-Endians (и уничтожить всех тупоконечников). Flestrin asked to be excused from this service (просил избавить его от /исполнения/ сего поручения; to excuse — извинять; освобождать /от ответственности, работы, обязанности/; service — служба, работа; помощь, услуга), as he was unwilling to destroy the liberty and lives of innocent people (так как /по его словам/ он не желал уничтожать свободу и жизни невинных людей; willing — готовый /сделать что-л./; охотно делающий /что-л./). He is therefore a traitor against His Most Imperial Majesty (посему он является изменником его высочайшего императорского величества; most — в высшей степени, самый, служит для образования превосх. ст.).
