In the late 70's and 80's all along the Atlantic and its Tidewater rivers colonial buildings were becoming tourist destinations. Lilah Wiley Earle, a social climber, with a wealthy husband, Earl Potter III restored the early Governor Wiley's mansion and using her husbands money moved other historic buildings to her Square. One house and its owner bring trouble to Lilah. The owner won't sell her beautiful Victorian house and she won't move. Lilah hates Miss Eva and her eyesore. They are the thorn in her plan to have a wonderful tourist Square of beautiful Georgian homes. When Miss Eva dies leaving her home to her maid's son, things begin to change drastically for Lilah, the residents of the Square and the town of Earleton.
