Chris Conroy was born in 1932 and grew up here at the Copse, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow. He went to Terenure College and joined the Carmelites in 1951. After ordination he served in Whitefriar Street, gave Missions around the country, was Chaplain to hotels in Birmingham, studied in Brussels and travelled the world.In 1979 he volunteered to live with the Inca indians in Peru and recounted his experiences in the bestseller, A Beggar in Paradise.In this book he recalls many adventures of a wonderful life.
