Margaret Brisco's collection of short stories is set against the relationship between an older woman, Norma, and a younger one, Celeste. Through their relationship the stories of Norma's life come up. The stories in Metamorphoses run the gamut from Norma's own life to examining the memories of different women, and even wondering where one's home is, and where one belongs.
