On Atlan's journey, the ship gets caught in the tail of a passing comet and is catapulted to the far side of the sun, where an unknown planet's gravity pulls it away from certain destruction. The ship's sole occupant, Atlan, survives the crash on planet Urth. Although his own people see him as a traitor, on Urth, he becomes a god.
