On the night of July 7, 1933 the nephew of the politically powerful Dan O'Connell was kidnapped. He was held for the largest amount of ransom ever requested. After three weeks of captivity and the ransom paid young O'Connell was released. For the next three years the kidnappers were hunted down and brought to justice. All give long prison sentences four of the kidnappers committed suicide.
