The Scarborough to Pickering line ran for nearly 20 miles along the northern edge of the Vale of Pickering, close to the North Yorkshire Moors. The larger part of it, between Seamer and Pickering, was opened in 1882 and became known as the Forge Valley Line. There were seven intermediate stations along the whole route and only one, Seamer, is still open.
