An unusual official manual setting out the history and duties of the Royal Regiment of Artillery from its formation down to 1757. The book provides a wealth of information on the orders, ordnance, duties and requirements of those who served in the Regiment from its earliest days. It is difficult to think of another source containing such details - down to, for example, the exact payment made to a master gunner on the Earl of Romney's expedition to the West Indies in 1694 (Five shillings a day).
