Candelaria Rios is just a magnet for trouble. Her past and future are inextricably linked, weaving a devious and dangerous web around her. She doesn't know who to trust or what to do next. Bizarre things start happening and rapidly escalate out of control. The Cancion Chemical plant is a sprawling facility located next to a tranquil lake. On the other side of the lake, they have refurbished a small block building for a research laboratory. Santiago Guzman, their top chemist, has been searching for ways to reduce the pollution caused by the plant. In the process, Guzman accidentally creates something that even he doesn't understand. What he doesn't know is that a mysterious woman from his past, a practitioner of the black arts, has secretly been tinkering with his formulas. Guzman is elated by his success and envisions a Noble Prize in his future. But he also has an enemy, the fiercely loyal and psychotic son of the woman that he abused and abandoned in his younger days. The psycho intends to kill Guzman, but winds up killing an innocent man and blowing up the laboratory instead. The invisible, magical spark that lurked within Guzman's chemistry is washed into the nearby lake, where it becomes a supernatural entity out of control. Tony Torres has also recently arrived as the new plant manager. He struggles in his new position to get the plant under control and keep it running. He is looking to Candi for help with the financial obstacles as he battles a continual plague of accidents and problems. His frustration rapidly bubbles into intense anger. Local environmental radicals stage a protest, sending Torres into a rage. Soon after, the group's leader is found brutally murdered in the woods near the plant. Tony comes under suspicion and the police get involved, especially interested now that the detective knows Candi is working there. He is familiar with her past and that of her boyfriend Rico Altamar. The detective knows that the key to unraveling the mystery is probably in their hands. Candi and her friends dig for information, trying to understand what is going on and who is behind it. They try to put all the pieces together, but too much is happening. Things are spinning out of control, and no one knows how to stop the madness. Candi finds unexpected allies in a local duck and a mysterious Indian shaman who knows and sees more than anyone realizes. Candi and Rico persevere and eventually unmask the killer. But can they stop the evil that has been unleashed, or will they become the next victims?
