This guidebook explores the long-distance GR10 trek across the French Pyrenees from Atlantic to Mediterranean. This 866km (538 mile) classic walk takes a lower route than the more arduous Pyrenean High Route. The route takes about 50 days to complete, and is described in the guidebook in 50 day stages, all with mapping and route profiles, but this guide also divides it into sections conveniently tackled in a fortnight's holiday, with details of accommodation and transport. The GR10 runs along the northern, French flank of the Pyrenees from Hendaye on the west coast through the mountains of the Pays Basque, Bearn and Hautes Pyrenees to Luchon. From here it continues generally in an easterly direction to pass the sparsely populated Ariege, then across the Pyrenees Orientales to end on the Mediterranean coast at Banyuls-sur-Mer. The guidebook also provides plenty of practical information on preparation, itinerary planning and provides details on what to expect on the GR10 for walkers. There are also details on the many places of interest, towns, villages and sights along the way, including an ascent of Pic du Midi d'Ossau.
