Agatha Kyteler is the neighbourhood witch, a healer and midwife, feared by superstitious villagers, but they wouldn't live without her, and continuously seek her help. When her body is discovered in a hedge, frozen and horribly disfigured, there are no clues as to who the murderer is. That is, until a local youth runs away Sir Baldwin and Simon Puttock join forces once again, determined to prove the boy's innocence.
