When Peter arrives in the medieval town of Assisi, birthplace of St. Francis, his main interest is in painting until he becomes involved in the lives of the local people, of one girl in particular. But disturbing news from beyond the safety of the city walls can no longer be ignored. It is only months before the outbreak of the second World War.
