When Catherine Jameson leaves Southampton and arrives in Shetland with her husband, Robbie, her dream of an idyllic life on an island is rudely shattered. His home is a croft devoid of any convenience and her mother-in-law does not hide her dislike of her son’s English wife. Undaunted, Catherine is determined to adapt to her new life, but when Robbie drowns in a fishing accident, and a short time later she finds she is pregnant, she is devastated.
