This new book by Robert Crawford argues for a new model of God - the cosmic scientist, who is carrying through an experiment in the laboratory of the world. It draws on the Judaeo-Christian traditions and uses insights from other religions to develop the argument that life is a test. In a scientific age, the model should be appropriate in interacting with more traditional pictures of what God is like. The similarity with the human scientist is noted but there is particular stress on the sympathy of the divine, particularly with our struggle against evil.
