Study of the structure of Natalie's experience as 'Schone seele' in The Confessions. The aim of the study is to see whether it is basically a genuine and healthy attitude towards life (with some clear limitations) or whether, it is merely a manifestation of the sentimentality of the eighteenth century which could not survive except as a literary curiosity, a psychological aberration.
